Minnesota Twins' Jason Kubel watches his two-run double against the Texas Rangers in the seventh inning of a baseball game Friday, July 18, 2008, in Minneapolis. The Twins won 6-0.

The mighty Texas offense rolled into Friday night’s game against Minnesota with one player on a 25-game hitting streak and another coming off a jaw-dropping 28-dinger round in the Home Run Derby. Verlander throws 7 innings to lead Detroit to win (AP)

Detroit Tigers outfielders from left, Clete Thomas, Curtis Granderson, and Matt Joyce celebrate their 4-2 win over the Minnesota Twins in the ninth inning of a Major League Baseball game Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Detroit. Detroit won 4-2.

Justin Verlander knew it was a big game, and he wasn’t about to let his teammates down. Verlander tossed seven sharp innings and the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 4-2 Sunday, denying their AL Central rivals a four-game sweep in the final series before the All-Star break. “My intention was to go out there and get us a win going into the break, and I was able to do that,” said Verlander,…
