New guys Gomez and Hernandez lead Twins past Hunter, Angels 3-2 (AP)
With Torii Hunter watching from the other side, Carlos Gomez made a strong first impression in Minnesota. Gomez formally replaced Hunter as the center fielder and raced around the bases, giving Livan Hernandez and the Twins enough offense to beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 Monday night with a snowstorm swirling outside the Metrodome.

Twins send Liriano to minors to start the season (AP)
Minnesota Twins pitcher Francisco Liriano will start the season in the minor leagues. The left-hander is coming back from elbow surgery and was 2-2 with a 4.02 ERA in spring training. He missed the 2007 season recovering. Liriano is scheduled to start for the Class A Fort Myers Miracle on Thursday night at Fort Myers.
